A lot of what the chapters are discussing are the meanings behind what we say, do or see and although they are obvious to us subconsciously, the book writes it out and gives us the chances to make meaningful decisions in our words, actions and interpretations of the things we see do or say.
A lot of discussion on the different types of meanings that something gave give. Whether its a word, or an object or a sound, and how each of those represent something. The crazy thing about these meanings are that the meaning can change by either the context or the way someone says it or even by the facial expression that goes before or after it.
In today:s society most don't think about how a word can mean so many different things. I'll take a great example out of the book where one thing can mean so many different things (keep in mind it does not bring up context or facial expression or any other concept that could change the meaning):
From the sentence: "I didn't eat Grandmother's chocolate cake. "
I didn't eat Grandmother's chocolate cake.
(Paul ate Grandmother's chocolate cake.)
I didn't eat Grandmother's chocolate cake.
(I sat on Grandmother's chocolate cake.)
I didn't eat Grandmother's chocolate cake.
(I ate Susan's chocolate cake.)
I didn't eat Grandmother's chocolate cake.
(I ate Grandmother's fruitcake.)
I didn't eat Grandmother's chocolate cake.
(I ate Grandmother's chocolate cookie.)
I found this very interesting to see for my eyes the power of words and how little they can mean on the very own.
